ORION WINS OCEAN CITY, MD EVENT
PENN International 30VSW Reel Instrumental in Victory
The ORION, based out of Palm Beach, FL came up big winners at the 36th Annual White Marlin Open (Aug. 3-7). On day two of the tournament, Orion angler Sean Healy, of Prides Crossing, MA, hooked a 93.5lb white marlin. With the help of the Orion crew, Healy was able to land the fish. Landing the fish was an amazing story in itself. Especially after the vessel became stuck in the forward motion, leaving the crew to improvise on the go for the entire hour-long battle.
As soon as Sean Healy hooked the white marlin, the transmission on the ORION gave out. The ORION, stuck in forward, could only circle in wide loops. Healey had to walk around the boat to fight the fish and bring it to the boat.
This winning white marlin was the 2nd largest marlin ever caught since the inception of the tournament in 1980. This year’s event had 298 boats participating. The fish was caught on a PENN 30VSW and the prize for the catch was $903,442.00, the highest single payout for the tournament.
Braided line ready, the Penn International series gives the saltwater angler Dura-Drag washer that virtually eliminate hesitation, even under the strain that braided lines put on a reel. Equipped with a patented Quick Shift two-speed system, the Penn International V easily shifts into high or low gear. Four ball bearings give the angler the smoothest performance in saltwater. Penn International Reels are available in five sizes – 16VS, 30VSW, 50VSW, 70 VS and 80 VSW – to accommodate any saltwater fish.
